Local Business Profile - Van Dang of Studio-Tiger

By Jane Wroe Wright

Streatham is bursting with energy and creativity, with small businesses springing up across the area to prove it.  Studio-tiger (www.studio-tiger.co.uk) is a small design company set up by Van Dang 2 years ago, with the aim of bringing top-quality graphic and web-design to small and start-up local businesses. Since then she has steadily built up a client base of mostly Streatham businesses through word of mouth.

Keen to use local companies to create this magazine, I met Van to discuss what she offers to local entrepreneurs. Her dedication to high professional standards comes from a background in advertising agencies - she was previously Art Director for Hakuhodo Inc. Japan’s second largest advertising agency. When Van and her partner decided to start a family, her work priorities changed and she decided to set up her own business with the idea of applying the techniques and skills she had developed working for clients such as Panasonic to the needs of local businesses. As a result, Van asks a lot of her clients: - a detailed description of what they want (the “creative brief”); commitment to a timeline for the project, and to giving her detailed feedback.  Van’s belief and experience is that the more the client puts into the process, the better the result.

For Van, job satisfaction comes from taking a client from their initial rough concept, through discussion, negotiation, and drafting to the creation of an original, top-quality design.  The process is often a revelation for her clients, because it helps them to really focus, and concentrate on what it is that makes their business special for the first time.
Van has designed several of the ads in this magazine, and you can see her web design work for local companies on these sites.
